In 1935, Richard Camacho purchased land at 796 West Wahl Road in El Centro, California, the former site of New River Church and School, which met its unfortunate demise in the mid-1920s. Meanwhile Juanita, Richard's wife, continued the tradition of her mother's recipes in the kitchen until she and Richard opened a little restaurant on that land in 1946, and as the saying goes, the rest is (and continues to be) history.
